Membership FAQs
Joining the Missoula Organization of REALTORS® (MOR)
All real estate licensing is handled by Montana’s Board of Realty Regulation (BRR) which is a department of the state government. All questions regarding obtaining your license should be directed to the BRR by calling (406) 444-6880 or visit their website: realestate.mt.gov.
We also recommend contacting a local brokerage to discuss the initial licensing process since joining a brokerage is a pre-requisite for obtaining your license.
As a courtesy, MOR does offer some general pre-licensing information here.
In order to be considered for membership, you must have an active real estate license from the state of Montana and your brokerage/office must also be a member of MOR. If both of those items are true, please take a look at our helpful guide to joining MOR: click here.
If you are a broker, and are looking for information on how your brokerage/office may join MOR, please send an email to membership@missoulrealestate.com or call 406-728-0560. Our new office and new Designated REALTOR® online applications are only available by request.
Primary membership is an accounting term indicating that you are paying your National and State dues through that particular REALTOR® association. Whether joining MOR as a secondary or primary member, you will still receive all membership benefits.
Secondary membership means that you are already paying your national and state dues with another local REALTOR® association. Therefore, you only have to pay the local dues with your secondary association. Whether joining MOR as a secondary or primary member, you will still receive all membership benefits.
A REALTOR® is a member of the local, state and national trade associations; adheres to a strict Code of Ethics; and must complete ethics training every three years. A real estate agent is a person who holds a real estate license, but may or may not be a REALTOR®.
You will follow the same application process as those who are brand new licensees (click here for our helpful guide to joining), however, providing a letter of good standing from your current or past primary association will be a requirement of joining. This letter may be sent via email to membership@missoularealestate.com.
Please note that if you have already paid national and/or state (Montana) dues through your current/past Association, your MOR dues bill will be adjusted accordingly.
Lastly, if you are transferring/joining MOR and are a current member of an Association that subscribes to the Montana Regional MLS (GFAR, BVBOR, HAR, RMAR or NMAR), your application fee will be waived.
Membership to MOR may be a requirement of the office (brokerage) with which you are associated. However, MOR as an organization does not have a requirement that you join the Association.
Yes, attending MOR’s Orientation is requirement for all new members of MOR, including those transferring from another Association, joining as an Appraiser, and of course, for brand new licensees. Once you apply and your application has been processed, you will be automatically registered to attend the next available Orientation which is held quarterly. Orientation is for in-person attendance only and typically lasts from 9am to 4pm.
Orientation teaches new members how to access the REALTOR® resources through the Association and covers MOR’s operating policies and procedures. You will also meet MOR staff and understand the role of MOR as a business partner in your work, and how your dues are spent. Only upon completion of Orientation (and the NAR-required Code of Ethics training) are you an active member of the association, and able to call yourself a “REALTOR®.”
Yes, as part of your MOR Membership, you will automatically also join the Montana Association of REALTORS® (MAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), which provides you membership benefits from all three levels.
MRMLS access is NOT included in your MOR membership dues but joining MOR as a REALTOR® member is typically a prerequisite for gaining access to the MRMLS. The MRMLS is a separate entity from MOR with their own staff, application process, and billing.
Once your application is received and your brokerage’s Designated REALTOR® (DR) has submitted MOR’s acknowledgement form, processing can take up to (5) business days, however, wait times are usually shorter.
Once processed you will receive an email with instructions on how to pay your membership dues and how to complete the NAR-required Code of Ethics course available online. Those applicants who are already members of another REALTOR® Association will also need to submit a letter of good standing.
Once dues are paid and the code of ethics course is completed (and/or a letter of good standing is received, if applicable), MOR staff will authorize your access to the SentriLock program (if your brokerage has opted in) and we will notify MRMLS staff of your new MOR membership. MRMLS Staff will then reach out to you with how to begin their application process, usually within 24-48 hours of being notified.
No. Once you pay your membership dues and complete NAR’s Code of Ethics course (and/or provide a letter of good standing if applicable), you will be granted “provisional” membership to MOR which does allow you to access membership benefits including gaining access to the MRMLS and the SentriLock Lockbox Program.
Upon attending Orientation, your application will go before MOR’s Board of Directors for final approval, and once approved, you will be granted ‘active’ status as a member of MOR.
If the brokerage you have joined has a primary membership with MOR, and you choose to not join MOR, the Designated REALTOR® (DR) of your brokerage will have to pay a non-member licensee assessment for each licensee associated with the firm who is not a REALTOR® member. Non-member licensee assessment is the equivalent of local, state and national dues minus the National Association of REALTOR® dues special image assessment of $35.
Licensed Appraisers join MOR as REALTOR® Members. If you are the sole-proprietor of your office and would like to begin the application process, please email membership@missoularealestate.com or call 406-728-0560. Our new office and new Designated REALTOR® online applications are only available by request.
If you are a licensed Appraiser and you are associated with a firm that is already a member of MOR, you will simply apply online: click here.
General Membership Questions
Visit our homepage (www.missoularealestate.com) and look for "Info Hub Login." You may also click the “Join Us” navigation across the top and click ‘Member Login’ from the dropdown menu.
MOR’s Info Hub is your member portal and allows to you view and register for all available classes, events and committee meetings. The Info Hub is also where you can pay your annual membership dues, view/download your course completion certificates, update your contact information, upload your headshot for our REALTOR® Member Directory, and much more!
We recommend logging into your Info Hub to view and easily register for all available classes and events.
You may also visit our website missoularealestate.com and click ‘Events & Education,” then click “View Calendar.” When registering, you may be prompted to login (using your Info Hub account details) in order to view all registration options. Example: most classes are free to attend for MOR Members, but you must be logged in to see the $0 member registration option.
Please also note that some events such as MOR’s committee meeting schedule are only viewable inside your Info Hub.
Membership dues are billed annually, and members are notified via email each December. Payment may be submitted online by accessing your Info Hub, or members may pay via check which may be dropped off or mailed to the MOR office. Payment for your membership dues renewal is due by January 1st. If payment is not received by January 31st, your membership will be immediately suspended including access to the MRMLS and SentriLock. MOR does not accept partial payments or offer a payment plan.
Please note your MOR membership dues DO NOT include annual fees associated with the Montana Regional MLS (MRMLS). The MRMLS is a separate entity from MOR with their own billing schedule (their annual renewal period is typically held in June). Please visit www.406mls.com or call 406-752-0416 for more information.
As required for your REALTOR® membership, all REALTORS® must complete at least 2.5 hours of NAR-approved code of ethics (COE) training during each 3-year cycle. The current cycle began Jan. 1, 2022 and the deadline is Dec. 31, 2024. Training may be completed any time through NAR’s free online courses or through another method, such as online or classroom courses from local/state associations, or from a third-party education resource. Visit our website here for helpful links.
New members of MOR who received their license/joined MOR after 1/1/2022 would have completed NAR’s Code of Ethics for New Members course when they joined, and this course does meet the requirement.
For more information and a complete list of all standing Committees click here. If you are interested in serving on a committee, we recommend you first attend an upcoming meeting as a guest. Please contact the Chair, Vice-Chair, or Staff Liasion in order to be added to the calendar invite, or simply register to attend the next committee meeting via your Info Hub.
- Committee members serve for two years, and committees meet typically monthly or bi-monthly.
- Committee positions are open to REALTOR® and Affiliate Members.
- Members may join a committee at any time throughout the year, however positions run from January 1st to December 31st.
Please send your request via email to membership@missoularealestate.com.
Requests for an M2M may be sent to mor@missoularealestate.com. Please include your flyer or graphic as a png or jpeg, and your desired subject line. Staff will then charge your account the $30 fee, but if a card is not saved inside your payment profile in your Info Hub, staff will send you an email with your invoice & link to pay. The M2M will be not sent until payment is received.
Please note that per a policy change in 2022, M2Ms may no longer be sent promoting content already found inside the Montana Regional MLS, example: open houses, price changes, new listing announcements, etc.
M2Ms are typically now used by agents to promote specifically broker opens, buyer needs, rental listings, and other real estate related information that is not found inside the MRMLS.
Affiliate Members of MOR are allowed a certain number of M2Ms per year at no cost, based on their membership level.

Changes to Membership Status, Office Transfers, Updating Contact Information:
Please note that any changes to a licensee's MOR membership status (going inactive, moving to referral status, etc.) cannot be completed until the Designated REALTOR® (DR) of the licensee's brokerage has submitted the proper MOR form. The same is true for a licensee making a brokerage change. For questions, please email membership@missoularealestate.com or call 406-728-0560. These forms are available to complete inside the DR's Info Hub at any time, or MOR staff can send them via email by request.
You have access to make these changes inside your Info Hub: click here to login. Once inside, please choose the “My Info” navigation on the left hand side. To add a photo, click the gray circle next to your name, below the MOR logo on the left-hand side.
MOR’s ‘outgoing office transfer’ form must be completed by your existing brokerage’s Designated REALTOR® (DR). This form is available to complete 24/7 inside the DR’s Info Hub (under Resources, then click ‘Brokers Only’ folder), or MOR staff can send the form via email by request. MOR’s ‘incoming office transfer’ form must also be completed by the DR of your new brokerage. Once both forms are completed, MOR will update your records and notify the MRMLS and SentriLock of your brokerage change. To get the process started, you may always email membership@missoularealestate.com or call 406-728-0560.
*Any changes to your brokerage/supervising broker must also be made with the Board of Realty Regulation: www.realestate.mt.gov
The Designated REALTOR® (DR) of your existing brokerage must complete MOR’s ‘member status change’ form. This form is available to complete 24/7 inside the DR’s Info Hub (under Resources, then click ‘Brokers Only’ folder), or MOR staff can send the form via email by request.
Please note that shortly after this form is received, your MOR membership will be terminated including MRMLS and SentriLock access. We recommend you contact your new brokerage’s primary REALTOR® Association ASAP to begin their application process in order to avoid downtime. You could lose access to the MRMLS and SentriLock at least temporarily during the transition.
Please also note no refunds will be issued for dues paid. If you are in possession of any MOR-owned lockboxes, they should be returned to the MOR office immediately in order to avoid fees.

To get the process started, please email membership@missoularealestate.com or call 406-728-0560. There are (2) forms that must be completed, one by you as the licensee and one by the DR of your brokerage. MOR will send these forms via email.
Once both forms are submitted, your MOR membership will be terminated including MRMLS and SentriLock access.
According to the NAR and MOR bylaws, there are basic rules for anyone entering a brokerage's LFRO program:
- The LFRO licensee is not considered a REALTOR® Member, and therefore does not pay annual dues. If an active licensee has already paid annual dues and then is moved to LFRO status, no refunds of dues will be provided.
- The LFRO licensee's real estate license must remain active with the Montana Board of Realty Regulation.
- The LFRO licensee must remain in compliance with the Montana Board of Realty Regulation's continuing education (CE) requirements.
- The LFRO licensee cannot participate in any activity related to real estate.
- The LFRO licensee may not be listed or advertised as a real estate agent/REALTOR® on any platform.
- The LFRO licensee is prohibited from accessing the MLS or the SentriKey/SentriLock Program.
- If the LFRO licensee decides to move back to Active status with MOR, the licensee and/or Designated REALTOR® has (3) days to let the Association know of the intent. The DR must complete MOR's member change form, after which, MOR will get in touch with the licensee on their next steps (paying dues, etc.). Please note that annual dues are not pro-rated.
If your license/membership has been inactive for 1 year or longer, you must re-apply for membership and complete all requirements (click here to begin MOR’s membership application).
If your license/membership has been inactive for less than 1 year, you are not required to re-apply.
In both scenarios, the DR of your brokerage must submit MOR’s ‘brokerage acknowledgement’ form. This form is available to complete 24/7 inside the DR’s Info Hub (under Resources, then click ‘Brokers Only’ folder), or MOR staff can send the form via email by request.
If a licensee currently in LFRO status decides to move back to Active status with MOR, the licensee and/or Designated REALTOR® (DR) has (3) days to let the Association know of the intent. The DR must complete MOR's member change form, after which, MOR will get in touch with the licensee on their next steps (paying dues, etc.). Please note that annual membership dues are not pro-rated for those moving out of referral status.
